उवाच परम उदारो हृष्टः तम् अभिपूजयन् ।
यथा अमृतस्य संप्राप्तिः यथा वर्षम् अनूदके ॥ ॥१-१८-५०॥
Uvāca parama udāro hṛṣṭaḥ tam abhipūjayan । Yathā amṛtasya saṃprāptiḥ yathā varṣam anūdake ॥ ॥1-18-50॥
Translation
Extremely generous and delighted, the King honored him with words, saying: "Like the attainment of Nectar (Amrita), or like rainfall in a waterless land..."
हिंदी अनुवाद
परम उदार राजा दशरथ ने प्रसन्न होकर उनका (वचन से) पूजन करते हुए कहा—"जैसे अमृत की प्राप्ति हो जाए, या जैसे जल रहित (सूखे) देश में वर्षा हो जाए (वैसा ही मुझे आनंद हो रहा है)।"
English Commentary
Here begins a series of beautiful similes used by Dasharatha to express his overwhelming joy. He is described as 'parama udara' (extremely generous), signifying his largesse in spirit and speech. He compares the sage's arrival to obtaining 'Amrita' (Divine Nectar), implying that the visit grants immortality or supreme bliss. The second simile, "rainfall in a waterless land," highlights relief and sustenance. Just as rain saves a drought-stricken land, the sage's presence purifies the kingdom and saves it from spiritual drought. These comparisons are not merely poetic but reflect the King's intense emotional state and his reverence for the spiritual authority that Vishvamitra represents.

यहाँ से राजा दशरथ द्वारा विश्वामित्र के स्वागत में दी गई उपमाओं की शृंखला आरम्भ होती है। दशरथ उन्हें 'परम उदार' कहा गया है क्योंकि वे केवल धन नहीं, बल्कि सम्मान देने में भी उदार हैं। वे विश्वामित्र के आगमन की तुलना 'अमृत प्राप्ति' से करते हैं—जो मृत्यु को दूर कर अमरत्व देता है। दूसरी उपमा 'वर्षम् अनूदके' (सूखे में वर्षा) है। जैसे प्यासी धरती के लिए वर्षा जीवनदान है, वैसे ही गृहस्थ आश्रम में ऋषि का आगमन राजा के लिए आध्यात्मिक जीवनदान के समान है। ये उपमाएं दशरथ की विनम्रता और ऋषि के प्रति उनकी अगाध श्रद्धा को दर्शाती हैं। वे ऋषि के दर्शन मात्र को जीवन की सबसे बड़ी उपलब्धि मान रहे हैं।
