इति हृदय सुखम् निशम्य वाक्यम् श्रुति सुखम् आत्मवता विनीतम् उक्तम्।
प्रथित गुण यशा गुणैः विशिष्टः परम ऋषिः परमम् जगाम हर्षम् ॥१-१८-५९॥
Iti hṛdaya sukham niśamya vākyam śruti sukham ātmavatā vinītam uktam। Prathita guṇa yaśā guṇaiḥ viśiṣṭaḥ parama ṛṣiḥ paramam jagāma harṣam॥ ॥1-18-59॥
Translation
Hearing these humble words spoke by the self-controlled King—words that were pleasing to the ear and soothing to the heart—the supreme Sage Vishvamitra, renowned for his virtues and distinguished qualities, attained supreme joy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मन को वश में रखने वाले (आत्मवान) राजा दशरथ के इन विनीत वचनों को, जो कानों को प्रिय (श्रुति सुख) और हृदय को शांति देने वाले (हृदय सुख) थे, सुनकर प्रसिद्ध यशस्वी और गुणवान महर्षि विश्वामित्र परम हर्ष को प्राप्त हुए।
English Commentary
This verse concludes Sarga 18. It highlights the quality of Dasharatha's speech: humble ('vinitam'), pleasant to hear ('shruti sukham'), and genuinely comforting ('hridaya sukham'). Vishvamitra, a sage of immense power and repute, is deeply moved. His 'supreme joy' indicates relief; he anticipates no resistance to his request. The Sage feels he has found a true patron in Dasharatha. This moment of harmony is crucial, as it heightens the dramatic tension of the refusal that is likely to come once the specific demand for Rama is made in the next sarga.
