Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रामस्य राज शार्दूल न पर्याप्तौ महात्मनः ।
न च पुत्र गतम् स्नेहम् कर्तुम् अर्हसि पार्थिव ॥ ॥१-१९-१३॥
Rāmasya rāja śārdūla na paryāptau mahātmanaḥ । Na ca putra gatam sneham kartum arhasi pārthiva ॥ ॥1-19-13॥
Translation
O Tiger among Kings, they are no match for the high-souled Rama. O Ruler of the Earth, it is not befitting for you to yield to paternal attachment in this matter.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजसिंह! वे (राक्षस) उस महात्मा राम के सामने पर्याप्त (टिकने योग्य) नहीं हैं। हे पार्थिव! आप पुत्र-स्नेह के वशीभूत होकर (कर्तव्य से विमुख होने का) विचार न करें।
English Commentary
Vishwamitra addresses the root of Dasharatha's hesitation: Putra-sneham (attachment to his son). He gently admonishes the King, suggesting that giving in to emotional attachment is beneath his dignity as a ruler ("Tiger among Kings"). By calling Rama Mahatmanah (great-souled), he emphasizes that Rama's stature exceeds physical age. The Sage urges Dasharatha to rise above the biological father's role and act as the protector of Dharma.

विश्वामित्र दशरथ के मन में छिपे 'मोह' पर प्रहार करते हैं। वे स्पष्ट कहते हैं कि "पुत्र-स्नेह" को कर्तव्य के आड़े नहीं आना चाहिए। राजा का धर्म प्रजा और ऋषियों की रक्षा है, न कि केवल पिता बनकर रहना। वे राम को 'महात्मा' कहते हैं, यह दर्शाते हुए कि राम कोई साधारण बालक नहीं हैं। ऋषि चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि अत्यधिक ममता, कीर्ति और धर्म दोनों की शत्रु हो सकती है।
