Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वसिष्ठ प्रमुखाः सर्वे ततो रामम् विसर्जय ।
अभिप्रेतम् असंसक्तम् आत्मजम् दातुम् अर्हसि ॥ ॥१-१९-१७॥
Vasiṣṭha pramukhāḥ sarve tato rāmam visarjaya । Abhipretam asaṃsaktam ātmajam dātum arhasi ॥ ॥1-19-17॥
Translation
Therefore, having consulted with Vasistha and the other leaders, please release Rama. Even though he is your beloved son, it is befitting of you to give him to me with detachment.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इसलिए वसिष्ठ आदि प्रमुख ऋषियों की सहमति लेकर आप राम को (मेरे साथ) भेज दीजिये। यद्यपि वह आपका अत्यंत प्रिय पुत्र है, फिर भी आसक्ति छोड़कर उसे मुझे सौंप देना ही आपके लिए उचित है।
English Commentary
In this verse, Sage Vishvamitra addresses King Dasharatha's deepest vulnerability: his attachment to his son. Recognizing that giving up Rama feels impossible for the King, the Sage uses the word asaṃsaktam (without attachment or clinging). To ease the burden of this decision, Vishvamitra suggests consulting Guru Vasistha and other elders, implying that the wise counselors will validate this request as being in the kingdom's best interest. The Sage is essentially asking Dasharatha to transcend his role as a biological father and act as a Dharmic king who must sacrifice personal happiness for the greater good of the world.

इस श्लोक में विश्वामित्र दशरथ के सबसे बड़े डर को संबोधित करते हैं—पुत्र मोह। ऋषि जानते हैं कि दशरथ के लिए राम प्राणों से प्यारे हैं, इसलिए वे 'असंसक्तम्' (बिना आसक्ति के) शब्द का प्रयोग करते हैं। विश्वामित्र यह सुझाव देते हैं कि यह निर्णय केवल दशरथ का नहीं होना चाहिए, बल्कि कुलगुरु वसिष्ठ और अन्य मंत्रियों के परामर्श से लिया जाना चाहिए। ऋषि का तर्क है कि धर्म के कार्य के लिए पुत्र का दान करना ही रघुकुल की मर्यादा के अनुकूल है। यह राजा को एक व्यक्तिगत पिता की भूमिका से ऊपर उठकर 'धर्मपालन' की ओर प्रेरित करने का प्रयास है।
