दश रात्रम् हि यज्ञस्य रामम् राजीव लोचनम् ।
न अत्येति कालो यज्ञस्य यथा अयम् मम राघव ॥ ॥१-१९-१८॥
Daśa rātram hi yajñasya rāmam rājīva locanam । Na atyeti kālo yajñasya yathā ayam mama rāghava ॥ ॥1-19-18॥
Translation
The duration of the Yajna is only for ten nights. O Raghava, please send the lotus-eyed Rama so that the auspicious time for my sacrifice does not pass by.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! मेरे यज्ञ का समय केवल दस रात्रियों का ही है। आप राजीवलोचन (कमल नयन) राम को मेरे साथ भेज दें ताकि मेरे यज्ञ का समय व्यर्थ न बीत जाए (यज्ञ में विघ्न न पड़े)।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra attempts to comfort the distressed King by quantifying the separation—it is merely for "ten nights." By specifying the short duration, he hopes to make the request more palatable to Dasharatha. The use of the epithet Rajiva Lochanam (lotus-eyed) for Rama highlights his divine charm and purity, suggesting that such a pure being is essential for the holy rite. Simultaneously, the Sage places urgency on the matter; if Dasharatha delays due to his emotional attachment, the specific astrological time for the Yajna will pass, rendering the sacrifice impossible. It is a mix of reassurance and ultimatum.

विश्वामित्र यहाँ दशरथ को सांत्वना देने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं कि वियोग स्थाई नहीं है। 'दश रात्रम्' (दस रातें) कहकर वे यह जता रहे हैं कि राम बहुत कम समय में वापस आ जाएंगे। यहाँ राम के लिए 'राजीव लोचनम्' (कमल जैसे नेत्रों वाले) विशेषण का प्रयोग किया गया है, जो राम की सौम्यता और दिव्यता को दर्शाता है। विश्वामित्र यह भी चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि यदि निर्णय लेने में देरी हुई, तो यज्ञ का शुभ मुहूर्त निकल जाएगा, जो कि एक राजा के लिए शुभ नहीं होगा। ऋषि समय की पाबंदी और कार्य की महत्ता दोनों पर जोर दे रहे हैं।
