Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विरराम महातेजा विश्वामित्रो महामतिः ।
स तन् निशम्य राजेन्द्रो विश्वामित्र वचः शुभम् ॥ ॥१-१९-२०॥
Virarāma mahātejā viśvāmitro mahāmatiḥ । Sa tan niśamya rājendro viśvāmitra vacaḥ śubham ॥ ॥1-19-20॥
Translation
The possessor of great luster and great intellect, Vishvamitra, paused. The King of Kings (Dasharatha), having heard those auspicious words of Vishvamitra, reacted.

महातेजस्वी और महाबुद्धिमान विश्वामित्र इतना कहकर रुक गए। राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ दशरथ ने विश्वामित्र के उन शुभ वचनों को सुना (और उनका प्रभाव उन पर पड़ा)।
English Commentary
The verse emphasizes Vishvamitra's stature as Mahateja (greatly radiant) and Mahamati (greatly wise). His silence commands as much power as his speech. Dasharatha, addressed here as Rajendra (Lord of Kings), hears these words described as shubham (auspicious). This creates a dramatic irony; while the request is auspicious for the universe and Rama's future glory, for Dasharatha, it sounds like a death knell. The verse sets the stage for the clash between the sage's spiritual vision and the king's paternal attachment.
