Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अहम् नियमम् आतिष्ठे सिध्द्यर्थम् पुरुषर्षभ।
तस्य विघ्नकरौ द्वौ तु राक्षसौ काम रूपिणौ ॥१-१९-४॥
Aham niyamam ātiṣṭhe sidhyartham puruṣarṣabha। Tasya vighnakarau dvau tu rākṣasau kāma rūpiṇau॥ ॥1-19-4॥
Translation
O Bull among men, I am engaged in a sacred vow for the attainment of perfection (Siddhi). But two Rakshasas, capable of changing their forms at will, are creating obstacles in it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुरुषर्षभ! मैं सिद्धि प्राप्त करने के लिए एक 'नियम' (यज्ञ/व्रत) का अनुष्ठान कर रहा हूँ। किंतु, इच्छाधारी (रूप बदलने वाले) दो राक्षस उसमें विघ्न डाल रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra explains the situation. He is performing a 'niyama' (sacred rite) for spiritual attainment. The obstacles are two 'Kama rupinau' (shapeshifting) Rakshasas. This description implies that the enemies use sorcery and illusion, making them difficult to track or kill by conventional means. By calling Dasharatha 'Purusharshabha' (Bull among men), he appeals to the King's masculine duty to protect the holy from the unholy. The Sage frames the conflict as a disruption of cosmic order (Yajna) by chaotic forces.

विश्वामित्र समस्या का विवरण देना शुरू करते हैं। वे एक 'नियम' (विशेष यज्ञ) कर रहे हैं। यद्यपि विश्वामित्र सर्वशक्तिमान हैं, लेकिन यज्ञ करते समय वे श्राप नहीं दे सकते क्योंकि उससे तपोबल क्षीण होता है और क्रोध यज्ञ को खंडित करता है। इसलिए उन्हें रक्षक की आवश्यकता है। शत्रु 'काम रूपिणौ' हैं—वे मायावी हैं और रूप बदल सकते हैं। इससे यह संकेत मिलता है कि उन्हें हराने के लिए केवल बल नहीं, बल्कि दिव्य अस्त्रों और बुद्धि की भी आवश्यकता होगी।
