व्रते मे बहुशः चीर्णे समाप्त्याम् राक्षसाविमौ।
मारीचः च सुबाहुः च वीर्यवन्तौ सुशिक्षितौ ॥१-१९-५॥
Vrate me bahuśaḥ cīrṇe samāptyām rākṣasāvimau। Mārīcaḥ ca Subāhuḥ ca vīryavantau suśikṣitau॥ ॥1-19-5॥
Translation
When my vow is mostly performed and near completion, these two Rakshasas—Maricha and Subahu—who are powerful and well-trained, appear.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब मेरा वह व्रत लगभग पूरा होने को होता है, तब मारीच और सुबाहु नाम के दो अत्यंत वीर्यवान और (युद्ध विद्या में) सुशिक्षित राक्षस (आ धमकते हैं)।
English Commentary
The antagonists are identified: Maricha and Subahu. They are described as 'viryavantau' (valorous) and 'sushikshitau' (well-trained/educated). This is crucial intel; it tells the King that the threat requires a skilled warrior, not just a guard. They strike when the vow is 'samaptyam' (near completion). This timing is calculated to maximize frustration and waste the Sage's spiritual effort. It portrays the Rakshasas not just as brutes, but as intelligent, malicious strategists intent on stopping the expansion of spiritual power.

यहाँ शत्रुओं का नाम और गुण बताया गया है। वे साधारण असुर नहीं हैं। 'सुशिक्षितौ' (अच्छी तरह प्रशिक्षित) शब्द बताता है कि वे युद्धकला में निपुण हैं। मारीच (जो बाद में स्वर्ण मृग बनेगा) और सुबाहु रावण के भेजे हुए बाधा हैं। वे ठीक उसी समय हमला करते हैं जब व्रत 'समाप्त्याम्' (समाप्ति पर) होता है। यह राक्षसी रणनीति है—ऋषि को पूरी मेहनत करने देना और अंतिम क्षण में फल को नष्ट कर देना ताकि उनका मनोबल टूट जाए।
