यद् इदम् ते क्षमम् राजन् गमिष्यामि यथा आगतम् ।
मिथ्या प्रतिज्ञः काकुत्स्थ सुखी भव सु हृद् वृतः ॥ ॥१-२१-३॥
Yad idam te kṣamam rājan gamiṣyāmi yathā āgatam |
Mithyā pratijñaḥ kākutstha sukhī bhava su hṛd vṛtaḥ ॥1-21-3॥
Translation
"O King! If this seems right to you, I shall depart just as I came. O Kakutstha! May you remain happy with your false promises, surrounded by your friends."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे राजन्! यदि तुम्हें यह (वचन तोड़ना) उचित लगता है, तो मैं जैसे आया था वैसे ही चला जाऊंगा। हे काकुत्स्थ! तुम अपनी झूठी प्रतिज्ञा के साथ अपने मित्रों के बीच सुखी रहो।"
English Commentary
This is Vishwamitra’s ultimatum. Calling a king of the Kakutstha dynasty mithya pratijnah (one of false vows) is the ultimate insult. When the sage says "Be happy," it is dripping with sarcasm and foreboding. He implies that happiness built on broken promises is impossible. The threat of the sage leaving empty-handed carries the implicit weight of spiritual merit leaving the kingdom, which terrifies Dasharatha more than a battlefield defeat.

यह विश्वामित्र का अल्टीमेटम (अंतिम चेतावनी) है। 'मिथ्या प्रतिज्ञः' (झूठी प्रतिज्ञा करने वाला) कहना एक रघुकुल के राजा के लिए सबसे बड़ा अपमान है। विश्वामित्र श्राप नहीं दे रहे, बल्कि व्यंग्य कर रहे हैं—"सुखी भव" (सुखी रहो)। यह आशीर्वाद नहीं, बल्कि एक तीखी आलोचना है कि क्या तुम सत्य को त्यागकर वास्तव में सुखी रह पाओगे? ऋषि का खाली हाथ लौटना राजा के लिए और पूरे राज्य के लिए अमंगलकारी संकेत है।
