त्रस्त रूपम् तु विज्ञाय जगत्सर्वम् महान् ऋषिः ।
नृपतिम् सुव्रतो धीरो वसिष्ठो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-२१-५॥
Trasta rūpam tu vijñāya jagatsarvam mahān ṛṣiḥ |
Nṛpatim suvrato dhīro vasiṣṭho vākyam abravīt ॥1-21-5॥
Translation
Realizing that the whole world was terrified, the great Sage Vasistha, he of noble vows and steadfastness, spoke these words to the King.

सारे जगत को भयभीत देखकर, महान ऋषि, उत्तम व्रत का पालन करने वाले और धैर्यवान वसिष्ठ जी ने राजा (दशरथ) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Here enters the stabilizer, the Royal Preceptor Vasistha. While Vishwamitra represents fiery indignation, Vasistha is described as dhirah (steadfast/calm). His intervention is critical because he is the only authority whom Dasharatha obeys implicitly and whom Vishwamitra respects. Vasistha realizes that the situation has escalated beyond a domestic dispute into a cosmic crisis, necessitating immediate correction of the King's stance.

यहाँ संकटमोचक के रूप में कुलगुरु वसिष्ठ का प्रवेश होता है। जहाँ विश्वामित्र 'क्रोध' का प्रतीक बन गए हैं, वहीं वसिष्ठ 'धीर' (धैर्यवान) हैं। वसिष्ठ का हस्तक्षेप महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि वे एकमात्र व्यक्ति हैं जिनका सम्मान विश्वामित्र भी करते हैं और जिनकी आज्ञा दशरथ नहीं टाल सकते। वे स्थिति की गंभीरता को समझते हैं—यह केवल एक पुत्र का मामला नहीं, बल्कि जगत के कल्याण और रघुकुल के धर्म का प्रश्न है।
