Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कृतः स्वस्त्ययनम् मात्रा पित्रा दशरथेन च ।
पुरोधसा वसिष्ठेन मङ्गलैः अभिमंत्रितम् ॥ ॥१-२२-२॥
Kṛtaḥ svastyayanam mātrā pitrā daśarathena ca । Purodhasā vasiṣṭhena maṅgalaiḥ abhimantritam ॥ ॥1-22-2॥
Translation
Blessings (Svastyayana) were performed by his mother and his father, Dasharatha. The family priest Vasistha also consecrated him with auspicious mantras.

माता (कौशल्या) और पिता दशरथ ने राम का स्वस्त्ययन (मंगल-कृत्य) किया। कुलगुरु वशिष्ठ ने भी मंगलकारी मंत्रों द्वारा उन्हें अभिमंत्रित किया।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the traditional Vedic send-off ceremony known as Svastyayana (calling for well-being/auspiciousness). Rama receives blessings from the three most important figures in his life: his mother, father, and guru. The inclusion of the mother (Mātrā) highlights the domestic sentiment amidst the epic mission. Vasistha chants protective mantras (abhimantritam), ensuring spiritual armor acts alongside physical prowess. It illustrates that even an Avatar respects and undergoes the rituals established for human conduct.

किसी भी महत्वपूर्ण यात्रा से पूर्व वैदिक संस्कृति में 'स्वस्त्ययन' (कल्याण की कामना) संस्कार का विधान है। यहाँ राम को माता, पिता और गुरु—तीनों का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है। कौशल्या (माता) का उल्लेख सबसे पहले है, जो भारतीय संस्कृति में माँ के स्थान की महत्ता दर्शाता है। वशिष्ठ द्वारा 'मंगलैः अभिमंत्रितम्' का अर्थ है कि उन्होंने वैदिक मंत्रों के द्वारा राम के चारों ओर एक सुरक्षा चक्र का निर्माण किया। यह दृश्य एक पारिवारिक विदाई का है, जहाँ धर्म, प्रेम और कर्तव्य का संगम हो रहा है।
