Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दशरथ नृप सूनु सत्तमाभ्याम् तृण शयने अनुचिते तदा उषिताभ्याम् ।
कुशिक सुत वचोऽनुलालिताभ्याम् सुखमिव सा विबभौ विभावरी च ॥ ॥१-२२-२३॥
Daśaratha nṛpa sūnu sattamābhyām tṛṇa śayane anucite tadā uṣitābhyām । Kuśika suta vaco'anulālitābhyām sukhamiva sā vibabhau vibhāvarī ca ॥ ॥1-22-23॥
Translation
Those two excellent sons of King Dasharatha, though unaccustomed (undeserving) to sleeping on a bed of grass, rested there. Being comforted and delighted by the words of the son of Kushika, that night passed pleasantly for them.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दशरथ के वे श्रेष्ठ पुत्र, जो घास के बिस्तर (तृण शय्या) पर सोने के योग्य नहीं थे (अनुचित), उन्होंने उस रात वहां निवास किया। विश्वामित्र (कुशिक सुत) के मधुर वचनों से दुलराए जाने के कारण, वह रात (विभावरी) उनके लिए सुखपूर्वक बीत गई।
English Commentary
This closing verse of the Sarga is poignant. It contrasts the princes' royal upbringing with their current reality—sleeping on grass (trina shayane), which is deemed anuchite (unsuitable) for their status. However, the hardship is mitigated by Vishwamitra's paternal care. His words lulled them to sleep (lalitabhyam). It beautifully illustrates that peace comes not from the quality of the bed, but from the quality of the company and protection.

यह सर्ग का अंतिम श्लोक है (छंद परिवर्तन के साथ)। कवि की करुणा यहाँ झलकती है—वे राजकुमार मखमल पर सोने वाले थे, घास पर नहीं ('अनुचिते')। यह उनके वनवास जीवन का पहला कड़ा अनुभव था। किन्तु, विश्वामित्र ने पिता की तरह उन्हें कहानियाँ सुनाकर या मीठी बातें करके सुलाया ('वचोऽनुलालिताभ्याम्')। गुरु का प्रेम कठोर भूमि को भी कोमल बना देता है।
