Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अवध्यतः च रुद्रेण चक्षुषा रघु नन्दन ।
व्यशीर्यन्त शरीरात् स्वात् सर्व गात्राणि दुर्मतेः ॥ ॥१-२३-१२॥
avadhyataḥ ca rudreṇa cakṣuṣā raghu nandana |
vyaśīryanta śarīrāt svāt sarva gātrāṇi durmateḥ ॥1-23-12॥
Translation
O scion of Raghu! When looked upon by Rudra with his (third) eye, all the limbs of that evil-minded one (Kama) withered and fell from his body.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे रघुनन्दन! रुद्र (शिव) द्वारा अपने नेत्र (तीसरी आँख) से देखे जाने पर उस दुर्मति (कामदेव) के शरीर से सारे अंग झड़कर गिर गए।
English Commentary
Sage Vishwamitra describes the intensity of Lord Shiva's penance and anger. The term "Durmati" (evil-minded or foolish) is used for Kama (the god of love) because he dared to disturb Shiva's deep meditation, a reckless act. The power of Shiva's third eye was so potent that a mere glance caused Kama's limbs to wither and detach from his body. This verse highlights the terrifying power of Rudra and the consequences of disturbing a deity's spiritual practice.

महर्षि विश्वामित्र यहाँ भगवान शिव की तपस्या और क्रोध की तीव्रता का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। "दुर्मति" शब्द का प्रयोग कामदेव के लिए किया गया है क्योंकि उन्होंने भगवान शिव की समाधि भंग करने का दुस्साहस किया था, जो एक अनुचित कृत्य था। शिव के तीसरे नेत्र की अग्नि इतनी प्रबल थी कि दृष्टि मात्र से कामदेव के अंग (गात्र) उनके शरीर से अलग होकर बिखर गए। यह श्लोक दैवीय शक्ति के सामने मानवीय या अन्य किसी भी शक्ति की तुच्छता को दर्शाता है।
