तस्य ऋषेः परम उदारम् वचः श्रुत्वा नृप नरोत्तमौ ।
स्नात्वा कृत उदकौ वीरौ जेपतुः परमम् जपम् ॥ ॥१-२३-३॥
Tasya ṛṣeḥ parama udāram vacaḥ śrutvā nṛpa narottamau । Snātvā kṛta udakau vīrau jepatuḥ paramam japam ॥ ॥1-23-3॥
Translation
Hearing the most generous words of the Sage, those two heroic and excellent princes bathed, offered water oblations, and chanted the supreme prayer (Gayatri mantra).

ऋषि के उन परम उदार वचनों को सुनकर, नरों में श्रेष्ठ उन दोनों वीर राजकुमारों ने स्नान किया, जल तर्पण (अर्घ्य) दिया और परम जप (गायत्री मंत्र) का पाठ किया।
English Commentary
The promptness of the princes illustrates their military-like discipline and spiritual dedication. Without complaint, they performed their morning ablutions (Snatva) and rituals. Paramam Japam typically refers to the Gayatri Mantra, considered the highest chant in Vedic tradition. The verse highlights that despite being royalty, they strictly adhered to the duties of an ascetic student under the guidance of their Guru.

यहाँ राम और लक्ष्मण की गुरु-भक्ति और अनुशासन (Discipline) दर्शनीय है। वे आलस्य त्यागकर तुरंत उठे और "कृत उदकौ" (तर्पण/अर्घ्य) तथा "परमम् जापम्" (गायत्री उपासना) में लग गए। ऋषि के वचन को "परम उदार" कहा गया है क्योंकि गुरु द्वारा समय पर जगाना भी शिष्य पर एक कृपा है। यह श्लोक वैदिक दिनचर्या (Sandhyavandanam) की महत्ता को दर्शाता है।
