Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तीरम् दक्षिणम् आसाद्य जग्मतुर् लघु विक्रमौ ।
स वनम् घोर संकाशम् दृष्ट्वा नरवरात्मजः ॥ ॥१-२४-१२॥
Tīram dakṣiṇam āsādya jagmatur laghu vikramau । Sa vanam ghora saṃkāśam dṛṣṭvā naravarātmajaḥ ॥ ॥1-24-12॥
Translation
Having reached the southern bank, they walked with quick strides. Upon seeing that forest which appeared terrifying, the son of the best of men (Rama) reacted.

वे (नदी के) दक्षिणी तट पर पहुँचकर शीघ्रता से आगे बढ़े। वहाँ उस भयानक दिखने वाले वन को देखकर नरश्रेष्ठ (दशरथ) के पुत्र राम ने (प्रश्न किया)।
English Commentary
The scene shifts dramatically from the holy confluence to a dark, forbidding landscape. The phrase laghu vikramau suggests the agility and swift gait of the princes. As they step onto the southern bank, the atmosphere becomes ominous (ghora sankasham). This sets the stage for the encounter with the demoness Tataka. The contrast between the holy river they just left and the dark forest they are entering serves as a narrative transition from peace to conflict.

दृश्य अब शांत नदी तट से बदलकर एक भयानक वन की ओर मुड़ता है। 'लघु विक्रमौ' का अर्थ है कि वे दोनों भाई बहुत फुर्तीले और तेज चलने वाले थे। जैसे ही वे दक्षिणी तट पर उतरते हैं, वातावरण बदल जाता है। यह 'घोर संकाशम्' (भयानक दिखने वाला) वन ताड़का का क्षेत्र है, यद्यपि उसका नाम अभी नहीं लिया गया है। यह श्लोक उस तनाव और रहस्य को स्थापित करता है जो आगे की कथा में आने वाला है।
