मारीचो राक्षसः पुत्रो यस्याः शक्र पराक्रमः ।
वृत्त बाहुर् महा शीर्षो विपुला अस्य तनुर् महान् ॥ ॥१-२४-२७॥
Mārīco rākṣasaḥ putro yasyāḥ śakra parākramaḥ । Vṛtta bāhur mahā śīrṣo vipulā asya tanur mahān ॥ ॥1-24-27॥
Translation
Her son is the Rakshasa named Maricha, possessing valor equal to Indra. He has round, powerful arms, a massive head, and a gigantic body.

उसका पुत्र मारीच नामक राक्षस है, जो इन्द्र के समान पराक्रमी है। उसकी भुजाएँ गोल और पुष्ट हैं, सिर बहुत बड़ा है और शरीर विशाल है।
English Commentary
This verse introduces Maricha, a pivotal character in the future Aranya Kanda (as the Golden Deer). Here, he is described in his raw, terrifying form. Comparisons to Indra (Shakra parakramah) are used to indicate high-level threat capability. The physical description—round arms (indicating muscle), huge head, and vast body—is meant to visualize a monster. Vishvamitra is briefing Rama on the entire enemy family unit that dominates this forest, ensuring Rama understands the magnitude of the opposition.

अब ताड़का के पुत्र मारीच का परिचय दिया जा रहा है। यह वही मारीच है जो बाद में स्वर्ण मृग बनकर सीता हरण का कारण बनेगा। यहाँ उसके भयानक रूप का चित्रण है—विशाल शरीर और बड़ा सिर। उसे 'शक्र पराक्रमः' (इन्द्र के समान पराक्रमी) कहा गया है, जो यह बताता है कि शत्रु कमजोर नहीं है। विश्वामित्र राम को यह समझाना चाहते हैं कि वे किसी साधारण अपराधी से नहीं, बल्कि देव-तुल्य शक्ति रखने वाले राक्षसों से भिड़ने जा रहे हैं।
