English Commentary
Upon reaching the middle of the river ("Madhyam Agamya"), a roaring sound caused by the turbulence ("Samrambha") of the water arrested their attention. This was not ordinary water noise but the thunderous sound of a confluence. The auditory imagery sets the scene for Rama's curiosity and Vishwamitra's subsequent explanation of the geography.

जब नाव नदी के बीचों-बीच ("मध्यम् आगम्य") पहुँची, तो जल के वेग और टकराव से उत्पन्न एक भीषण ध्वनि सुनाई दी। "तोय संरम्भ" का अर्थ है जल का क्षोभ या वेग। यह ध्वनि सामान्य लहरों की नहीं थी, बल्कि दो महान नदियों के संगम की थी। यह प्राकृतिक घटना राम के मन में जिज्ञासा उत्पन्न करती है, जो अगले श्लोकों में प्रश्न का आधार बनती है।
