Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुन्दे तु निहते राम सा अगस्त्यम् ऋषि सत्तमम् ।
ताटका सह पुत्रेण प्रधर्षयितुम् इच्छति ॥ ॥१-२५-१०॥
Sunde tu nihate rāma sā agastyam ṛṣi sattamam । Tāṭakā saha putreṇa pradharṣayitum icchati ॥ ॥1-25-10॥
Translation
O Rama, when Sunda was killed, Tataka, along with her son, desired to attack Agastya, the most excellent of Sages.

हे राम! जब (अगस्त्य ऋषि के शाप से) सुन्द मारा गया, तब ताड़का अपने पुत्र के साथ मिलकर ऋषियों में श्रेष्ठ अगस्त्य मुनि पर आक्रमण करना चाहा।
English Commentary
The motive for Tataka's evil nature is revealed here: vengeance. Following the death of her husband Sunda (implied to be caused by Agastya's spiritual power due to Sunda's misdeeds), she directs her rage toward the sage. Instead of accepting the karmic consequence, she chooses aggression (Pradharshayitum - to assault/attack). Targeting a Rishi Sattamam (foremost among sages) like Agastya marks the point of no return for her and her son.

यहाँ प्रतिशोध (Revenge) की भावना का जन्म होता है। सुन्द की मृत्यु अगस्त्य मुनि के कारण हुई थी (जो यहाँ स्पष्ट नहीं लिखा पर कथा का संदर्भ यही है)। पति की मृत्यु से क्रोधित होकर ताड़का ने ऋषियों को अपना शत्रु मान लिया। 'प्रधर्षयितुम्' का अर्थ है आक्रमण करना या अपमानित करना। विनाश की शुरुआत यहीं से होती है—जब शक्ति का प्रयोग ऋषियों (धर्म के रक्षकों) के विरुद्ध किया जाता है।
