राक्षसत्वम् भजस्व इति मारीचम् व्याजहार सः ।
अगस्त्यः परम अमर्षः ताटकाम् अपि शप्तवान् ॥ ॥१-२५-१२॥
Rākṣasatvam bhajasva iti mārīcam vyājahāra saḥ । Agastyaḥ parama amarṣaḥ tāṭakām api śaptavān ॥ ॥1-25-12॥
Translation
...spoke to Maricha, saying, "Attain the state of a Rakshasa." Then Agastya, filled with great indignation, cursed Tataka as well.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...मारीच से कहा—"तुम राक्षस भाव को प्राप्त हो जाओ।" फिर अत्यंत क्रोधित होकर अगस्त्य ने ताड़का को भी शाप दिया।
English Commentary
The curse is pronounced. First, Maricha is condemned to become a Rakshasa, aligning his physical form with his malicious intent. Then Agastya turns his Parama amarshah (supreme indignation/righteous anger) toward Tataka. In Vedic lore, a sage's curse is a weapon of truth—it forces the external reality to match the internal truth. Since they acted like monsters, Agastya mandated they become monsters.

अगस्त्य मुनि ने पहले मारीच को शाप दिया क्योंकि शायद वह आक्रमण में आगे था। 'राक्षसत्वम् भजस्व' का अर्थ है—तुम्हारे कर्म राक्षसों जैसे हैं, इसलिए तुम्हारा शरीर भी वैसा ही हो जाए। ऋषियों का क्रोध (अमर्ष) निजी नहीं होता, वह धर्म की रक्षा के लिए होता है। अगस्त्य जैसे शांत मुनि का 'परम अमर्ष' (अत्यंत क्रोधित) होना यह बताता है कि ताड़का और मारीच का पाप कितना बढ़ गया था।
