Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि ते स्त्री वध कृते घृणा कार्या नरोत्तम ।
चातुर् वर्ण्य हितार्थाम् हि कर्तव्यम् राज सूनुना ॥ ॥१-२५-१७॥
Na hi te strī vadha kṛte ghṛṇā kāryā narottama । Cātur varṇya hitārthām hi kartavyam rāja sūnunā ॥ ॥1-25-17॥
Translation
O Best among Men, you must not harbor any revulsion regarding the killing of a woman. For the welfare of the four orders of society, a prince must indeed perform such duties.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे नरोत्तम! स्त्री-वध के विषय में तुम्हें (मन में) घृणा या संकोच नहीं करना चाहिए। चारों वर्णों (संपूर्ण समाज) के हित के लिए राजपुत्र को ऐसा (कठोर) कर्तव्य करना ही पड़ता है।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra addresses the elephant in the room: the taboo of Stri-vadha (killing a woman). He instructs Rama not to feel Ghrina (revulsion/disgust) or hesitation. He elevates the argument to the level of Statecraft and Dharma. For a Raja sununa (son of a king), the protection of the societal order (Chatur varnya) supersedes gender-based codes of chivalry. If a woman threatens the existence of society, the King's duty to protect the many overrides the rule to protect the female.

यह श्लोक 'राजधर्म' का सार है। सामान्य नियम कहता है कि स्त्री अवध्य है (उसे मारा नहीं जाना चाहिए)। लेकिन विश्वामित्र राम के मन में उठ रहे 'धर्मसंकट' को भाँप लेते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि जब बात 'चातुर्वर्ण्य' (समाज की संरचना) की रक्षा की हो, तो राजा के लिए लिंग-भेद समाप्त हो जाता है। अपराधी केवल अपराधी होता है। 'नरोत्तम' कहकर वे याद दिलाते हैं कि श्रेष्ठ पुरुष भावनाओं से ऊपर उठकर कर्तव्य का पालन करते हैं।
