Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ददौ नाग सहस्रस्य बलम् च अस्याः पितामहः ।
न तु एव पुत्रम् यक्षाय ददौ च असौ महायशाः ॥ ॥१-२५-७॥
Dadau nāga sahasrasya balam ca asyāḥ pitāmahaḥ । Na tu eva putram yakṣāya dadau ca asau mahāyaśāḥ ॥ ॥1-25-7॥
Translation
Pitamaha gave her the strength of a thousand elephants, but the highly illustrious one did not grant a son to the Yaksha.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ब्रह्मा जी ने उस कन्या को हजार हाथियों का बल भी दिया, किन्तु उस महायशस्वी यक्ष को पुत्र नहीं दिया।
English Commentary
This answers the core of Rama's question. The strength of a thousand elephants was a specific component of Brahma's boon to her. The verse notes a specific restriction: Brahma did not give Suketu a son, despite perhaps the usual desire for one. Instead, he gave a daughter with the power usually associated with male warriors. This divine anomaly explains her physical prowess which defies the biological norms of her species.

यह श्लोक राम के प्रश्न (हजार हाथियों का बल कैसे?) का अंतिम उत्तर है। ब्रह्मा ने उसे यह बल जन्मजात वरदान में दिया था। श्लोक में यह भी स्पष्ट है कि सुकेतु को 'पुत्र नहीं दिया'। शायद सुकेतु पुत्र चाहता था, पर उसे 'पुत्र के समान बलशाली' पुत्री मिली। नियति का खेल देखिए—जिसे 'कन्या रत्न' और 'अपार बल' मिला, उसका उपयोग विनाश के लिए हुआ। इसी बल के कारण आज वह ऋषियों के लिए आतंक बनी हुई है।
