Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पितुर् वचन निर्देशात् पितुर् वचन गौरवात् ।
वचनम् कौशिकस्य इति कर्तव्यम् अविशङ्कया ॥ ॥१-२६-२॥
pitur vacana nirdeśāt pitur vacana gauravāt । vacanam kauśikasya iti kartavyam aviśaṅkayā ॥ ॥1-26-2॥
Translation
"Because of my father's direction, out of respect for my father's word, and thinking 'This is the word of Kaushika,' this duty must be done by me without any doubt."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"पिता के निर्देश से और पिता के वचनों के गौरव (सम्मान) के कारण, तथा 'यह कौशिक (विश्वामित्र) का वचन है', ऐसा मानकर मुझे नि:शंक होकर यह कार्य करना चाहिए।"
English Commentary
Rama articulates the hierarchy of his obedience. His primary motivation is his father's command (Pitur vacana). Before leaving Ayodhya, King Dasharatha instructed Rama to obey Viswamitra implicitly. Therefore, disobeying the sage would mean disobeying his father. Secondly, the command comes from 'Kaushika' himself, a sage of immense stature. Rama states that when these two authorities align, action must be taken avishankaya (without doubt or hesitation). It highlights Rama's adherence to the chain of command.

राम यहाँ अपनी प्रेरणा के स्रोतों को स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं। अयोध्या छोड़ते समय राजा दशरथ ने उन्हें विश्वामित्र की हर आज्ञा मानने का आदेश दिया था। राम उसी 'पितृ-आज्ञा' का पालन कर रहे हैं। दूसरा कारण 'कौशिक' (विश्वामित्र) का स्वयं का महान व्यक्तित्व है। राम यह संदेश दे रहे हैं कि जब पिता और गुरु दोनों की सहमति हो, तो शिष्य के मन में 'शंका' (doubt) का कोई स्थान नहीं रहता। यह पितृभक्ति और गुरुभक्ति का चरम उदाहरण है।
