Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कर्तव्यम् सुमहत् कर्म सुराणाम् राज सूनुना ।
एवम् उक्त्वा सुराः सर्वे जग्मुर् हृष्टा विहायसम् ॥ ॥१-२६-३१॥
kartavyam sumahat karma surāṇām rāja sūnunā । evam uktvā surāḥ sarve jagmur hṛṣṭā vihāyasam ॥ ॥1-26-31॥
Translation
"For a very great deed is yet to be accomplished by the King's son for the gods." Having said this, all the gods delightedly departed through the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"क्योंकि इन राजकुमार (श्रीराम) को देवताओं का एक अत्यंत महान कार्य संपन्न करना है।" ऐसा कहकर सभी देवता प्रसन्न होकर आकाश मार्ग से चले गए।
English Commentary
This verse provides foreshadowing. The phrase kartavyam sumahat karma (a great deed has to be done) alludes to the ultimate mission of Rama's avatar: the elimination of Ravana. The gods view Tadaka's death as a proof of concept. By calling him Raja Sununa (son of the King), they acknowledge his earthly role, but the context binds him to a celestial duty. The gods depart hrishta (delighted) because the anxiety regarding the demon menace has been replaced by hope. This establishes the narrative arc that Rama is an instrument of divine will.

देवता भविष्य द्रष्टा हैं। वे ताड़का वध को केवल एक शुरुआत मानते हैं। 'कर्तव्यम् सुमहत् कर्म' (एक अत्यंत महान कार्य करना शेष है) रावण वध की ओर स्पष्ट संकेत है, यद्यपि उसका नाम यहाँ नहीं लिया गया। यह भविष्यवाणी है कि राम का जन्म सामान्य राज-काज के लिए नहीं, बल्कि दैवीय उद्देश्यों की पूर्ति के लिए हुआ है। देवताओं का 'हृष्टा' (प्रसन्न) होकर जाना यह बताता है कि उन्हें अब विश्वास हो गया है कि उनका रक्षक आ गया है। वे निश्चिंत होकर अपने लोकों को लौट गए। यह श्लोक रामकथा के व्यापक उद्देश्य को स्थापित करता है।
