Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ददामि च अस्त्रम् पैनाकम् अस्त्रम् नारायणम् तथा ।
आग्नेयम् अस्त्रम् दयितम् शिखरम् नाम नामतः ॥१-२७-१०॥
dadāmi ca astram painākam astram nārāyaṇam tathā |
āgneyam astram dayitam śikharam nāma nāmataḥ ॥1-27-10॥
Translation
And I give you the Pinaka missile [of Lord Shiva] and the Narayana missile [of Lord Vishnu]. I also give you the Agneya missile, beloved of Agni, known by the name 'Shikhara'.

और मैं तुम्हें भगवान शिव का 'पैनाक' अस्त्र तथा भगवान विष्णु का 'नारायण' अस्त्र प्रदान करता हूँ। साथ ही अग्निदेव का प्रिय 'आग्नेय' अस्त्र भी देता हूँ, जो 'शिखर' नाम से विख्यात है।
English Commentary
This verse represents a theological and martial zenith in the epic. Vishwamitra entrusts Rama with the personal weapons of the supreme deities. The Pinaka is the weapon of Lord Shiva (the Destroyer), signifying absolute eradication of evil. The Narayana Astra belongs to Lord Vishnu (the Preserver), known for being irresistible and capable of ending any conflict. For Rama, receiving the Narayana Astra is a symbolic reclamation of his own divine heritage through the human discipline of learning from a Guru. Additionally, he receives the Agneya Astra named Shikhara (Peak/Flame-tip), the beloved weapon of Agni (Fire God). Possession of Shikhara implies the ability to command incineration on a massive scale. By holding the powers of Shiva, Vishnu, and Agni simultaneously, Rama is established as the supreme warrior capable of maintaining cosmic balance.

इस श्लोक में विश्वामित्र राम को त्रिदेवों और प्रमुख देवताओं की सर्वोच्च शक्तियां सौंप रहे हैं। 'पैनाक' अस्त्र भगवान शिव (पिनाकपाणि) का अस्त्र है, जो प्रलयंकारी क्षमता रखता है। 'नारायण' अस्त्र भगवान विष्णु का अमोघ शस्त्र है, जिसका कोई प्रतिकार नहीं है; यह एक बार चलाए जाने पर लक्ष्य को भेदकर ही लौटता है। राम, जो स्वयं विष्णु के अवतार हैं, अपने ही मूल स्वरूप की शक्तियों को गुरु के माध्यम से पुनः प्राप्त कर रहे हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त 'आग्नेय' अस्त्र, जो अग्निदेव का प्रिय है और जिसे 'शिखर' (ज्वाला का शिखर/चोटी) कहा जाता है, प्रदान किया गया है। यह अस्त्र युद्ध में भयानक अग्नि वर्षा करने में सक्षम है। इन अस्त्रों का एक ही योद्धा के पास होना यह सिद्ध करता है कि राम अब सृष्टि के रक्षक के रूप में शैव और वैष्णव दोनों शक्तियों के समन्वय का केंद्र बन गए हैं।
