पैशाचम् अस्त्रम् दयितम् मोहनम् नाम नामतः ।
प्रतीच्छ नरशार्दूल राजपुत्र महायशः ॥१-२७-१७॥
paiśācam astram dayitam mohanam nāma nāmataḥ |
pratīccha naraśārdūla rājaputra mahāyaśaḥ ॥1-27-17॥
Translation
O Tiger among men! O highly illustrious Prince! Accept the beloved Paishacha missile known by the name 'Mohana'.

हे नरशार्दूल! हे महायशस्वी राजपुत्र! पिशाचों का प्रिय 'मोहन' नामक अस्त्र ग्रहण करो।
English Commentary
Here, Vishwamitra instructs Rama to accept ("Pratīccha") the Paishacha Astra named Mohana. Note the distinction: Rama received a Gandharva Mohana earlier; this is the Paishacha variant. Paishacha relates to ghouls or ghosts. While the Gandharva version might charm or hypnotize, the Paishacha version likely induces terrifying hallucinations, madness, or coma-like stupor rooted in horror (tamas). It is significant that a righteous prince is given a "demonic" weapon; a complete warrior must understand and control all spectrums of power, including the dark arts, to effectively counter them. The epithets "Tiger among men" and "Highly illustrious" serve to remind Rama of his inherent nobility, ensuring he remains uncorrupted even while wielding weapons of darkness.

विश्वामित्र राम को 'पैशाच' (पिशाच संबंधी) अस्त्र दे रहे हैं, जिसका नाम भी 'मोहन' है (ध्यान दें: पहले गान्धर्व मोहन अस्त्र दिया था, यह पैशाच मोहन है)। पिशाच निम्न कोटि की तामसिक योनियाँ हैं, और उनका 'मोहन' अस्त्र संभवतः भय मिश्रित बेहोशी या पागलपन (delirium) उत्पन्न करने वाला होता है। 'प्रतीच्छ' (ग्रहण करो) शब्द का प्रयोग कर ऋषि राम को इसे स्वीकार करने का आदेश देते हैं। यद्यपि राम सात्विक हैं, उन्हें तामसिक शक्तियों का ज्ञान और नियंत्रण भी होना चाहिए ताकि वे उसी स्तर पर जाकर अधर्म का नाश कर सकें। 'नरशार्दूल' और 'महायशः' विशेषण राम के उस सामर्थ्य को रेखांकित करते हैं जो उन्हें इन नकारात्मक ऊर्जा वाले अस्त्रों को धारण करते हुए भी पवित्र बनाए रखता है।
