Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सत्यम् अस्त्रम् महाबाहो तथा मायामयम् परम् ।
सौरम् तेजःप्रभम् नाम पर तेजो अपकर्षणम् ॥१-२७-१९॥
satyam astram mahābāho tathā māyāmayam param |
sauram tejaḥprabham nāma para tejo apakarṣaṇam ॥1-27-19॥
Translation
O Mighty-armed one! [I give you] the Satya missile and the supreme Mayamaya missile. And [I give] the Saura missile named 'Tejahprabha', which draws away the splendor/strength of others.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे महाबाहु! मैं तुम्हें 'सत्य' अस्त्र तथा परम 'मायामय' अस्त्र देता हूँ। तथा सूर्य देवता का 'सौर' अस्त्र देता हूँ जिसका नाम 'तेजःप्रभ' है, जो शत्रुओं के तेज को हर लेने वाला है।
English Commentary
Vishwamitra equips Rama with weapons representing the fundamental dualities of existence. The Satya (Truth) Astra dispels all illusions and lies, ensuring that nothing false can stand against Rama. Conversely, the Mayamaya (Illusion-consisting) Astra allows Rama to create illusions, a necessary tactic in asymmetrical warfare against deceitful demons. Finally, he grants the Saura (Solar) Astra named Tejahprabha (Radiance of Light). Its unique function is para tejo apakarṣaṇam—stealing the vitality, radiance, or strength of the enemy. This is a debilitating weapon that drains the opponent's power source, rendering them weak before they are even struck. By holding Truth, Illusion, and the power to drain energy, Rama becomes the master of the metaphysical battlefield.

अस्त्रदान के इस चरण में विश्वामित्र द्वंद्व (duality) के अस्त्र देते हैं। 'सत्यम् अस्त्रम्' सत्य की शक्ति है, जो सभी प्रकार के भ्रम और असत्य का नाश करती है। इसके विपरीत, 'मायामयम्' अस्त्र भ्रमजाल रचने में सक्षम है; युद्ध में कभी-कभी माया का प्रयोग धर्म की रक्षा के लिए आवश्यक होता है (जैसे भगवान विष्णु द्वारा मोहिनी रूप)। अंत में, वे सूर्य (सौर) अस्त्र देते हैं जिसका नाम 'तेजःप्रभ' है। इसका विशेष गुण 'पर तेजो अपकर्षणम्' है—अर्थात यह शत्रु के तेज, शक्ति और प्रभाव को खींच लेता है। यह अस्त्र सामने वाले योद्धा को निर्बल और निस्तेज कर देता है। सत्य और माया दोनों का स्वामी होना राम को पूर्ण 'योगीराज' और 'कूटनीतिज्ञ' योद्धा बनाता है।
