ददामि ते महाबाहो ब्राह्मम् अस्त्रम् अनुत्तमम् ।
गदे द्वे चैव काकुत्स्थ मोदकी शिखरी शुभे ॥१-२७-७॥
dadāmi te mahābāho brāhmam astram anuttamam |
gade dve caiva kākutstha modakī śikharī śubhe ॥1-27-7॥
Translation
I give you, O Mighty-armed one, the unsurpassed Brahma Astra; and O Descendant of Kakutstha, two auspicious maces named Modaki and Shikhari.

हे महाबाहु! मैं तुम्हें सर्वोत्तम ब्रह्मास्त्र देता हूँ। और हे काकुत्स्थ! मैं तुम्हें मोदकी और शिखरी नामक दो शुभ गदाएं भी देता हूँ।
English Commentary
Addressing Rama as 'Mahabaho' (Mighty-armed), identifying his physical capacity to wield heavy weaponry, Vishwamitra grants the 'Anuttamam' (unsurpassed) Brahma Astra. This is the ultimate weapon in the ancient arsenal, carrying the authority of the Creator, usually invoked only when all else fails. Alongside this, he gifts two maces: Modaki (The Beater/Crusher) and Shikhari (The Pointed/Peaked One). The specific naming of the maces suggests they possessed unique magical properties or designs distinct from ordinary bludgeons. Describing them as 'Shubhe' (auspicious) implies that while they are instruments of war, in Rama's hands, they serve a righteous purpose. The acquisition of the Brahma Astra implies that Rama now possesses the nuclear option of Vedic warfare, essential for the elimination of powerful Rakshasas.
