सर्वम् मे शंस भगवन् कस्य आश्रम पदम् तु इदम् ।
संप्राप्ताः यत्र ते पापाः ब्रह्मघ्नाः दुष्ट चारिणः ॥१-२८-२०॥
sarvam me śaṃsa bhagavan kasya āśrama padam tu idam । saṃprāptāḥ yatra te pāpāḥ brahmaghnāḥ duṣṭa cāriṇaḥ ॥ ॥1-28-20॥
Translation
"Tell me everything, O Lord. Whose hermitage is this? Where those sinners, slayers of Brahmins, and evil-doers arrive..."

"हे भगवन्! मुझे सब कुछ बताइये, यह आश्रम किसका है? जहाँ वे पापी, ब्रह्म-हत्यारे और दुराचारी (राक्षस) आ धमकते हैं..."
English Commentary
Rama requests the history of the Ashrama-padam (hermitage site). His inquiry is laden with the context of his mission. He describes the antagonists with heavy epithets: Brahmaghnāḥ (killers of Brahmins/knowers of Veda) creates the moral justification for the upcoming battle. It highlights that the enemies are not just physically dangerous, but spiritually corrupt, attacking the very root of Dharma (represented by Brahmins and sacrifices). Rama identifies the location as ground zero for the conflict he is there to resolve.

राम अब सीधे अपने उद्देश्य पर आते हैं। वे उस आश्रम का इतिहास जानना चाहते हैं जिसकी रक्षा का भार उन पर है। राक्षसों के लिए वे अत्यंत कठोर विशेषणों का प्रयोग करते हैं: 'पापाः' (पापी), 'दुष्ट चारिणः' (दुराचारी), और सबसे गंभीर 'ब्रह्मघ्नाः' (ब्रह्मज्ञानी या ब्राह्मणों की हत्या करने वाले)। यह दर्शाता है कि राम उन शत्रुओं के अपराध की गंभीरता को समझते हैं। वे स्थान की पवित्रता और शत्रुओं की क्रूरता के बीच के संघर्ष को रेखांकित कर रहे हैं।
