Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रक्षितव्या क्रिया ब्रह्मन् मया वध्याः च राक्षसाः ।
एतत् सर्वम् मुनिश्रेष्टः श्रोतुम् इच्छामि अहम् प्रभो ॥१-२८-२२॥
rakṣitavyā kriyā brahman mayā vadhyāḥ ca rākṣasāḥ । etat sarvam muniśreṣṭha śrotum icchāmi aham prabho ॥ ॥1-28-22॥
Translation
"O Brahman, the ritual must be protected by me, and the demons are to be slain. O best of sages, O Lord, I wish to hear all of this (the details of this place and the task at hand)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे ब्रह्मन्! मेरे द्वारा यज्ञ-क्रिया की रक्षा की जानी है और राक्षसों का वध किया जाना है। हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ, हे प्रभो! मैं यह सब (इस स्थान का माहात्म्य और राक्षसों का विवरण) सुनना चाहता हूँ।"
English Commentary
This verse concludes the 28th Sarga. Rama displays the quintessential quality of a righteous warrior: preparedness. He explicitly links his desire to hear the history (shrotum icchami) with his obligation to act (rakshitavya - to be protected, vadhyah - to be killed). He views the information as necessary intelligence for his mission. By addressing Vishvamitra as Prabho (Lord/Master), he reiterates his submission, yet his focus is entirely on the active duty of protecting the Vedic rites from the demonic forces.
