बलिः वैरोचनिः विष्णो यजते यज्ञम् उत्तमम् ।
असमाप्त व्रते तस्मिन् स्व कार्यम् अभिपद्यताम् ॥१-२९-७॥
baliḥ vairocaniḥ viṣṇo yajate yajñam uttamam । asamāpta vrate tasmin sva kāryam abhipadyatām ॥ ॥1-29-7॥
Translation
"O Vishnu, Bali the son of Virochana is performing an excellent sacrifice. Before that vow (of the sacrifice) is completed, may our purpose be accomplished."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे विष्णु! विरोचन पुत्र बलि एक उत्तम यज्ञ कर रहा है। उस (यज्ञ) व्रत के समाप्त होने से पहले ही आप अपना (देवताओं का) कार्य सिद्ध कीजिये।"
English Commentary
The gods present their case with urgency. Bali is performing an uttamam yajñam (excellent sacrifice), strictly adhering to rituals. The danger lies in the completion of this rite. The phrase asamāpta vrate (while the vow is unfinished) is key; once finished, the merit accrued would make Bali invincible. The gods petition Vishnu to intervene immediately to restore the status quo (sva kāryam - own business/interest of the gods) before it is too late.

देवताओं की विनती में समय की पाबंदी (urgency) है। 'असमाप्त व्रते'—यदि बलि का यज्ञ पूरा हो गया, तो वह अजेय हो जाएगा। इसलिए देवताओं को 'Pre-emptive strike' (निवारक कार्यवाही) चाहिए, लेकिन युद्ध के द्वारा नहीं, बल्कि युक्ति से। 'स्व कार्यम्' का अर्थ यहाँ देवताओं का हित है, जो ब्रह्मांडीय संतुलन बनाए रखने में है। वे विष्णु से हस्तक्षेप की मांग कर रहे हैं क्योंकि बलि धर्मपूर्वक यज्ञ कर रहा है, इसलिए उसे बलपूर्वक नहीं रोका जा सकता।
