हसितं भाषितं चैव गतिर्यावच्च चेष्टितम् ।
तत्सर्वं धर्मवीर्येण यथावत् संप्रपश्यति ॥१-३-४॥
hasitaṃ bhāṣitaṃ caiva gatiryāvacca ceṣṭitam । tatsarvaṃ dharmavīryeṇa yathāvat samprapaśyati ॥1-3-4॥
Translation
Their laughter, their speech, their movements, and whatever other activities they performed—through the power of his piety (Dharma), he (Valmiki) perceived it all exactly as it happened.

(श्री राम आदि का) हँसना, बोलना, चलना-फिरना और जो भी अन्य चेष्टाएँ थीं, उन सबको मुनि (वाल्मीकि) ने अपने धर्मबल (योगबल) से यथार्थ रूप में (जैसे का तैसा) देख लिया।
English Commentary
This verse elaborates on the extraordinary granularity of Sage Valmiki’s yogic vision. He did not merely witness the major historical milestones of Rama's life, but perceived the most intimate and subtle nuances of his existence. The mention of Hasitam (laughter/joy), Bhashitam (conversations), and Chestitam (gestures/physical movements) indicates that the Sage had access to the private emotions, casual interactions, and behavioral subtleties of the characters. This lends the Ramayana its profound psychological depth and realism. The phrase Dharma-viryena (by the potency of Dharma/righteousness) is pivotal; it attributes this clairvoyance not to creative imagination, but to the spiritual power generated by asceticism.
