अथ तौ देश कालज्ञौ राजपुत्रौ अरिंदमौ ।
देशे काले च वाक्यज्ञौ अब्रूताम् कौशिकम् वचः ॥ ॥१-३०-१॥
Atha tau deśa kālajñau rājaputrau arindamau । Deśe kāle ca vākyajñau abrūtām kauśikam vacaḥ ॥ ॥1-30-1॥
Translation
Then, those two princes, the tamers of foes, who knew the significance of time and place and were skilled in speaking appropriate words for the occasion, spoke to Kaushika (Vishvamitra).

तदनन्तर देश और काल के ज्ञाता (परिस्थिति को समझने वाले), शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले और अवसर के अनुकूल बात करने में निपुण उन दोनों राजकुमारों ने कौशिक (विश्वामित्र) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Valmiki piles epithets here to emphasize the princes' competence. Desha-kala-jnyau means they possess situational awareness—they understand the terrain and the timing. Vakyajnyau means they are articulate and know exactly what to say to extract necessary information without wasting words. They are Arindamau (subduers of enemies) not just because of strength, but because of this intelligence. They initiate the conversation with Vishvamitra to finalize the rules of engagement before the silence of the ritual begins.

वाल्मीकि जी राम और लक्ष्मण के लिए 'देश-काल-ज्ञौ' (स्थान और समय को जानने वाले) विशेषण का प्रयोग करते हैं। युद्ध में समय और स्थान का ज्ञान सबसे बड़ा हथियार होता है। वे 'वाक्यज्ञौ' भी हैं—वे जानते हैं कि कब बोलना है और क्या बोलना है। चूंकि विश्वामित्र मौन धारण करने वाले हैं, इसलिए राजकुमारों को आवश्यक जानकारी पहले ही प्राप्त करनी है। यह उनकी रणनीतिक बुद्धिमत्ता (Strategic Intelligence) को दर्शाता है। वे भावुकता में नहीं, बल्कि पूरी योजना के साथ शत्रु का सामना करने के लिए तैयार हैं।
