Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तेन परमास्त्रेण मानवेन समाहितः ।
संपूर्णम् योजन शतम् क्षिप्तः सागर संप्लवे ॥ ॥१-३०-१८॥
Sa tena paramāstreṇa mānavena samāhitaḥ । Saṃpūrṇam yojana śatam kṣiptaḥ sāgara saṃplave ॥ ॥1-30-18॥
Translation
Struck by that supreme Manavastra (weapon of Manu), he was flung a full one hundred yojanas away into the surging waters of the ocean.

उस श्रेष्ठ मानवास्त्र द्वारा आहत होकर वह (मारीच) पूरे सौ योजन दूर गहरे समुद्र के जल में जा गिरा।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the specific nature of the Manavastra (the weapon presided over by the Progenitor Manu). Unlike the Agneyastra, which consumes, the Manavastra is used here as a force of displacement and expulsion. Rama’s intent was to purge the sacred space of the sacrificial altar from the impurity of the demon, rather than to execute him immediately. The distance of 'one hundred yojanas' signifies a total removal from the sphere of influence of the ritual. It demonstrates Rama's mastery over his weaponry; he applies the precise amount of force required to neutralize the threat without exceeding the mandate of the moment. By sparing Maricha here, destiny preserves a catalyst for future events in the Dandaka forest. It underscores Rama's role as a preserver of Dharma—removing the obstacle so the Vedic rite can proceed.

इस श्लोक में श्रीराम के कौशल और 'मानवास्त्र' की विशिष्ट प्रकृति का वर्णन है। यह अस्त्र केवल विनाशक नहीं, बल्कि नियंत्रक भी है। श्रीराम का उद्देश्य मारीच का तत्काल वध करना नहीं था, बल्कि उसे यज्ञ स्थल से दूर हटाना था। 'मानवेन' शब्द यहाँ अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है; मनु का अस्त्र होने के कारण, यह धर्म और दंड के सिद्धांतों पर कार्य करता है। मारीच को सौ योजन दूर समुद्र में फेंकने का अर्थ है—पाप और विघ्न को पवित्रता (सिद्धाश्रम) के क्षेत्र से पूरी तरह निष्कासित कर देना। यह घटना श्रीराम के भविष्य के वनवास काल के लिए भी एक पृष्ठभूमि तैयार करती है, जहाँ मारीच की भूमिका पुनः महत्वपूर्ण हो जाती है। यहाँ श्रीराम का संयम दिखता है कि उन्होंने उतनी ही शक्ति का प्रयोग किया जितनी यज्ञ की रक्षा के लिए आवश्यक थी, न कि अनावश्यक हिंसा के लिए।
