अथ ताम् रजनीम् तत्र कृतार्थौ राम लक्षणौ ।
ऊषतुर् मुदितौ वीरौ प्रहृष्टेन अंतरात्मना ॥ ॥१-३१-१॥
Atha tām rajanīm tatra kṛtārthau rāma lakṣaṇau । Ūṣatur muditau vīrau prahṛṣṭena antarātmanā ॥ ॥1-31-1॥
Translation
Then, those two heroes, Rama and Lakshmana, having accomplished their object, dwelt there that night with delighted minds and rejoiceful inner selves.

तदनंतर, वे दोनों वीर राम और लक्ष्मण, कृतकार्य होकर प्रसन्न अंतरात्मा और हर्ष के साथ उस रात्रि वहीं (सिद्धाश्रम में) रहे।
English Commentary
This opening verse of the new section establishes the mood following the conflict. The princes are described as kṛtārthau—successful in their objective. The emphasis is on their internal state: muditau (delighted) and prahṛṣṭena antarātmanā (with a rejoiceful inner soul). It signifies the deep psychological satisfaction that comes from fulfilling one's Dharma. The night at Siddhashrama, now free of demons, becomes a symbol of the peace that righteousness brings. It serves as a calm interlude before their journey continues towards Mithila in the subsequent verses.

यह अगले सर्ग का आरम्भ है जो पिछले घटनाक्रम का समापन करता है। 'कृतार्थौ' शब्द यहाँ दोनों भाइयों के लिए प्रयुक्त है—उन्हें अपने जीवन के पहले बड़े मिशन में सफलता मिली है। 'प्रहृष्टेन अंतरात्मना' (प्रफुल्लित अंतरात्मा से) यह दर्शाता है कि यह खुशी सतही नहीं, बल्कि आत्मिक संतोष है। धर्म की रक्षा करने से जो 'आत्म-प्रसाद' मिलता है, वह यहाँ वर्णित है। भय और तनाव के बाद की यह रात्रि शांति और विश्राम की है। यह श्लोक उस शांति को रेखांकित करता है जो कर्तव्य पालन के बाद प्राप्त होती है।
