तद्धि यज्ञ फलम् तेन मैथिलेन उत्तमम् धनुः ।
याचितम् नर शार्दूल सुनाभम् सर्व दैवतैः ॥ ॥१-३१-१२॥
Taddhi yajña phalam tena maithilena uttamam dhanuḥ । Yācitam nara śārdūla sunābham sarva daivataiḥ ॥ ॥1-31-12॥
Translation
O Tiger among men (Rama), that excellent bow was indeed obtained by the King of Mithila as the fruit of a Yajna. All the deities had entrusted that bow, named Sunabha, to his care.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे नरश्रेष्ठ राम! वह श्रेष्ठ धनुष उन मिथिलाधिपति (जनक के पूर्वज) को यज्ञ के फल के रूप में प्राप्त हुआ था। उस 'सुनाभ' नामक धनुष को सभी देवताओं ने एक धरोहर के रूप में वहाँ रखा था।
English Commentary
Sage Vishvamitra provides the divine provenance of the great bow to Rama. He explains that the weapon was not merely manufactured but was obtained as the Yajna-phalam (fruit of a sacrifice) by the ancestors of King Janaka. This elevates the object from a mere instrument of war to a sacred relic entrusted by the collective will of the gods (sarva daivataiḥ). The bow is identified here as 'Sunabha' (one with a beautiful center or grip). By addressing Rama as Nara Shardula (Tiger among men), Vishvamitra subtly hints at the martial prowess and spiritual fortitude required to handle such an object. It establishes the premise that the upcoming task in Mithila involves interacting with a legacy of high spiritual merit.
