तस्य तद् वचनम् श्रुत्वा कुशनाभस्य धीमतः ।
शिरोभिः चरणौ स्पृष्ट्वा कन्या शतम् अभाषत ॥१-३३-१॥
Tasya tad vacanam śrutvā kuśanābhasya dhīmataḥ |
Śirobhiḥ caraṇau spṛṣṭvā kanyā śatam abhāṣata ॥1-33-1॥
Translation
Hearing those words of the wise Kushanabha, the hundred maidens touched his feet with their heads and spoke.

बुद्धिमान कुशनाभ के उन वचनों को सुनकर, उन सौ कन्याओं ने अपने सिरों से पिता के चरणों का स्पर्श किया और (फिर) बोलना आरंभ किया।
English Commentary
This verse opens the 33rd Sarga, marking a shift from the visual shock to the verbal account. The King is styled as dhīmataḥ (wise/intelligent), acknowledging his composed reaction which encouraged the daughters. The act of touching the feet with their heads (śirobhiḥ caraṇau spṛṣṭvā) is deeply symbolic here. Despite their physical deformity making movement painful, they prioritize respect for their father. It signifies that while Vayu could break their bodies, he could not break their spirit or their adherence to protocol. This act of humility grounds the narrative again in Dharma before they reveal the injustice done to them.

नया सर्ग (अध्याय) पुत्रियों द्वारा पिता के प्रति सम्मान प्रदर्शन से आरंभ होता है। 'धीमतः' (बुद्धिमान) विशेषण राजा के लिए प्रयुक्त है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि पिता के धैर्य और स्नेह ने पुत्रियों को बोलने का साहस दिया। इतनी पीड़ा और शारीरिक कष्ट में होने के बावजूद, उन्होंने सबसे पहले 'शिरोभिः चरणौ स्पृष्ट्वा' (सिर से चरण स्पर्श कर) शिष्टाचार का पालन किया। यह उनकी उच्च संस्कृति और संस्कारों का प्रमाण है। शारीरिक रूप से 'कुबड़ा' होने के बाद भी उनकी विनय और मर्यादा 'सीधी' और अटूट है। यह श्लोक संवाद की पुनर्स्थापना करता है और पुत्रियों की व्यथा-कथा की भूमिका तैयार करता है।
