क्षमन्तम् क्षमावताम् पुत्र्यः कर्तव्यम् सुमहत् कृतम् ।
ऐकमत्यम् उपागम्य कुलम् च आवेक्षितम् मम ॥ ॥१-३३-६॥
Kṣāntam kṣamāvatām putryaḥ kartavyam sumahat kṛtam |
Aikamatyam upāgamya kulam ca āvekṣitam mama ॥1-33-6॥
Translation
O daughters, you have shown the forgiveness characteristic of the forbearing; you have performed a very great deed. By maintaining unity of opinion, you have preserved the honor of my lineage.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुत्रियों! तुम सबने क्षमाशील व्यक्तियों के योग्य आचरण किया है (जो सहा है), यह अत्यंत महान कार्य किया है। तुम सबने एकमत होकर मेरे कुल (की मर्यादा) का भी ध्यान रखा है।
English Commentary
King Kushanabha extols his daughters not for their suffering, but for their response to it. He acknowledges that they practiced Kṣamā (forgiveness), a trait of the spiritually advanced. He explicitly calls their action a 'great deed' (sumahat kṛtam). The daughters possessed the spiritual merit (Tapas) to curse Vayu in return, yet they chose restraint. The King highlights their aikamatyam (unity/unanimity)—all one hundred sisters acted with a singular, virtuous mind. By not retaliating, they preserved the dignity of their lineage (kulam). This verse redefines strength; it posits that true power lies not in the ability to inflict harm, but in the capacity to withhold it for the sake of higher principles.

राजा कुशनाभ अपनी पुत्रियों के धैर्य की प्रशंसा करते हैं। साधारणतः ऐसी स्थिति में शाप देना या प्रतिशोध लेना स्वाभाविक होता, परन्तु पुत्रियों ने 'क्षमा' को चुना। राजा इसे 'सुमहत् कृतम्' (बहुत बड़ा कार्य) कहते हैं। वायु जैसे देवता को शाप देने की शक्ति रखने (तपस्या के बल पर) के बावजूद, उन्होंने सहनशीलता दिखाई। 'ऐकमत्यम्' (एकमत) शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—सौ की सौ बहनों में से किसी एक ने भी क्रोध वश मर्यादा नहीं लांघी। राजा मानते हैं कि कुल की प्रतिष्ठा केवल बाहरी विजय से नहीं, बल्कि संकट के समय दिखाए गए संयम और चरित्र से सुरक्षित रहती है। यह श्लोक क्षमा को कायरता नहीं, बल्कि वीरों का आभूषण और कर्तव्य बताता है।
