ततो अहम् हिमवत् पार्श्वे वसामि नियतः सुखम् ।
भगिन्याम् स्नेह संयुक्तः कौशिक्या रघुनंदन ॥१-३४-१०॥
tato aham himavat pārśve vasāmi niyataḥ sukham |
bhaginyām sneha saṃyuktaḥ kauśikyā raghunaṃdana ॥1-34-10॥
Translation
Therefore, O descendant of Raghu, bound by affection for my sister Kaushiki, I reside happily and with discipline near the Himalayas.

हे रघुनन्दन! इसीलिए मैं अपनी बहन 'कौशिकी' के प्रति स्नेह से युक्त होकर, हिमालय के पार्श्व में नियमपूर्वक सुख से निवास करता हूँ।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra explains his choice of residence. While ascetics typically choose locations based on spiritual vibrations, Vishvamitra admits to an emotional attachment. He resides near the Himalayas primarily out of sneha (affection) for his sister, the river Kaushiki. This humanizes the sage, showing that spiritual elevation does not necessitate the severance of pure familial bonds. The phrase niyataḥ sukham (disciplined and happy) suggests that this attachment does not hinder his asceticism; rather, living near her holy waters complements his disciplined lifestyle.

विश्वामित्र अपने निवास स्थान के चयन का कारण बता रहे हैं। प्रायः ऋषि एकांत या विशिष्ट ऊर्जा वाले स्थानों को चुनते हैं, लेकिन विश्वामित्र का हिमालय के पास रहने का एक मुख्य कारण 'भगिन्याम् स्नेह संयुक्तः' (बहन के स्नेह से बंधे होना) है। यह अत्यंत मार्मिक है। इतने बड़े ब्रह्मर्षि, जिन्होंने नई सृष्टि तक रचने का सामर्थ्य दिखाया, वे भी अपनी बहन के प्रेमपाश में बंधे हैं। 'नियतः सुखम्' दर्शाता है कि वहाँ वे केवल भावुकता में नहीं, अपितु नियमों (तपस्या) का पालन करते हुए सुखपूर्वक रहते थे। यह श्लोक रिश्तों की पवित्रता और महत्व को स्थापित करता है।
