दिव्या पुण्य उदका रम्या हिमवंतम् उपाश्रिता ।
लोकस्य हितकार्य अर्थम् प्रवृत्ता भगिनी मम ॥१-३४-९॥
divyā puṇya udakā ramyā himavaṃtam upāśritā |
lokasya hitakārya artham pravṛttā bhaginī mama ॥1-34-9॥
Translation
My sister, possessing divine and holy waters, charming and residing near the Himalayas, has flowed forth specifically for the welfare of the world.

मेरी वह बहन दिव्य और पवित्र जल वाली, रमणीय तथा हिमालय के पार्श्व में बहने वाली है। वह संसार का हित करने के लिए ही (नदी रूप में) प्रवृत्त हुई है।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra elaborates on the sanctity and purpose of the river Kaushiki. The descriptors divyā (divine) and puṇya udakā (meritorious waters) elevate the river from a physical entity to a spiritual one. Geographically, it is described as flowing near the Himalayas. The teleological purpose of her transformation is explicitly stated as lokasya hitakārya artham—for the welfare of the world. This reinforces the concept of Paropkara (benevolence). Even in her elemental form, Satyavati carries the agency of a benefactor. The possessive 'my sister' (bhaginī mama) underlines the sage's personal connection to this sacred geography.

विश्वामित्र अपनी बहन (नदी) के गुणों का वर्णन करते हैं। 'पुण्य उदका' का अर्थ है जिसका जल पाप नाशक है। 'रम्या' उसकी सुंदरता को दर्शाता है। 'हिमवंतम् उपाश्रिता' भौगोलिक स्थिति को स्पष्ट करता है—हिमालय की गोद में। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण वाक्यांश है 'लोकस्य हितकार्य अर्थम्'—अर्थात उनका प्रवाह स्वयं के लिए नहीं, अपितु संसार के कल्याण के लिए है। यहाँ विश्वामित्र के स्वर में अपनी बहन के प्रति गर्व और आदर का भाव स्पष्ट झलकता है। एक कठोर तपस्वी होने के बावजूद, अपनी बहन के प्रति उनका यह स्नेह उनके मानवीय पक्ष को उजागर करता है।
