सा तु सत्यवती पुण्या सत्ये धर्मे प्रतिष्ठिता ।
पतिव्रता महाभागा कौशिकी सरिताम् वरा ॥१-३४-११॥
sā tu satyavatī puṇyā satye dharme pratiṣṭhitā |
pativratā mahābhāgā kauśikī saritām varā ॥1-34-11॥
Translation
That Satyavati is indeed virtuous, established in truth and righteousness. A devoted wife and highly fortunate, Kaushiki is the best among rivers.

वह सत्यवती पुण्यात्मा है, सत्य और धर्म में प्रतिष्ठित है। वह पतिव्रता और परम भाग्यशाली (महाभागा) कौशिकी, नदियों में श्रेष्ठ है।
English Commentary
This verse serves as a eulogy for Satyavati. The attributes act as a synthesis of her human past and her riverine present. She is satye dharme pratiṣṭhitā (grounded in truth and dharma), qualities that define the highest class of beings in the Ramayana. Calling her saritām varā (best of rivers) places her on a pedestal. The term pativratā (devoted to husband) is reiterated to emphasize that her power and subsequent divinity stem from her chastity and loyalty. Vishvamitra ensures Rama understands that his lineage is marked by female figures of immense spiritual stature.

यह श्लोक सत्यवती (कौशिकी) की स्तुति है। यहाँ उनके मानवीय और नदीय दोनों रूपों का मिश्रण है। 'सत्ये धर्मे प्रतिष्ठिता' उनके चरित्र की दृढ़ता को दिखाता है। 'सरिताम् वरा' (नदियों में श्रेष्ठ) कहकर विश्वामित्र उन्हें गंगा या यमुना के समकक्ष सम्मान दे रहे हैं। 'महाभागा' का अर्थ है महान भाग्य वाली या महान गुणों वाली। विश्वामित्र बार-बार अपनी बहन के गुणों का बखान कर रहे हैं, जो यह दर्शाता है कि राम को अपने कुल की महानता बताने में उन्हें कितना आनंद आ रहा है। यह कुल-कीर्तन की प्राचीन परंपरा का निर्वाह है।
