मुदितैः मुनि शार्दूलैः प्रशस्तः कुशिक आत्मजः ।
निद्राम् उपागमत् श्रीमान् अस्तम् गत इव अंशुमान् ॥१-३४-२२॥
muditaiḥ muni śārdūlaiḥ praśastaḥ kuśika ātmajaḥ |
nidrām upāgamat śrīmān astam gata iva aṃśumān ॥1-34-22॥
Translation
Praised thus by the delighted tiger-like sages, the glorious son of Kushika (Vishvamitra) entered into sleep, just as the sun sets below the horizon.

प्रसन्नचित्त मुनि-श्रेष्ठों द्वारा इस प्रकार प्रशंसित होकर, श्रीमान कुशिक-नंदन (विश्वामित्र) ने शयन किया, जैसे सूर्यदेव (अंशुमान) अस्ताचल को जाते हैं।
English Commentary
The scene winds down to sleep. The metaphor comparing Vishvamitra to the setting sun (astam gata iva aṃśumān) is powerful. It suggests that his waking presence radiates energy and heat (like the sun), and his sleep brings a cessation of that intense activity. The term muni śārdūlaiḥ (tigers among sages) is a standard Sanskrit honorific denoting pre-eminence and power. The verse captures the respectful atmosphere as the leader of the group retires for the night.

दिन भर की यात्रा और कथा-वार्ता के पश्चात विश्वामित्र विश्राम करते हैं। 'मुनि शार्दूलैः' (मुनियों में व्याघ्र/श्रेष्ठ) एक सुंदर विशेषण है जो अन्य ऋषियों की विद्वत्ता और तेज को दर्शाता है। विश्वामित्र के सोने की तुलना सूर्य के अस्त होने ('अस्तम् गत इव अंशुमान्') से की गई है। जैसे सूर्य के डूबने पर जगत शांत हो जाता है, वैसे ही विश्वामित्र के शांत होने पर आश्रम में नीरवता छा गई। 'श्रीमान्' शब्द उनकी गरिमा को बनाए रखता है, भले ही वे निद्रा मग्न हो रहे हों।
