स पिता मम काकुत्स्थ गाधिः परम धार्मिकः ।
कुश वंश प्रसूतो अस्मि कौशिको रघुनंदन ॥१-३४-६॥
sa pitā mama kākutstha gādhiḥ parama dhārmikaḥ |
kuśa vaṃśa prasūto asmi kauśiko raghunaṃdana ॥1-34-6॥
Translation
O Kakutstha! That supremely righteous Gadhi is my father. Being born in the lineage of Kusha, I am called 'Kaushika', O descendant of Raghu.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे काकुत्स्थ (राम)! वे ही परम धर्मात्मा 'गाधि' मेरे पिता हैं। कुश के वंश में उत्पन्न होने के कारण मैं 'कौशिक' हूँ, हे रघुनन्दन!
English Commentary
In this verse, Vishvamitra reveals his direct connection to the history he has just narrated. He identifies King Gadhi, previously described as 'supremely righteous,' as his own father. This serves as the formal introduction of his pedigree to Rama. By declaring himself a 'Kaushika' (descendant of Kusha), he validates his status not just as a Brahmarshi (which he attained later) but as a Kshatriya of royal blood by birth. The use of lineage-based address for Rama (Kakutstha, Raghunandana) mirrors his own self-identification, establishing a bond of noble heritage between the speaker and the listener.

इस श्लोक में महर्षि विश्वामित्र अपने कुल का परिचय पूर्ण करते हैं। अभी तक वे 'कुश' और 'गाधि' की कथा एक तटस्थ कथावाचक की भांति सुना रहे थे, किन्तु यहाँ वे स्वयं को उस कथा से जोड़ते हैं। वे गर्व के साथ कहते हैं कि गाधि उनके पिता हैं। 'काकुत्स्थ' और 'रघुनंदन' संबोधन राम के उच्च कुल को याद दिलाने के लिए हैं, जैसे विश्वामित्र अपने 'कौशिक' गोत्र का परिचय दे रहे हैं। 'कौशिक' नाम का अर्थ है कुश के वंशज। यह श्लोक रामायण के ऐतिहासिक संदर्भ में अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह विश्वामित्र को कुरु वंश और चंद्र वंश की प्राचीन शाखाओं से जोड़ता है।
