पूर्वजा भगिनी च अपि मम राघव सुव्रता ।
नाम्ना सत्यवती नाम ऋचीके प्रतिपादिता ॥१-३४-७॥
pūrvajā bhaginī ca api mama rāghava suvratā |
nāmnā satyavatī nāma ṛcīke pratipāditā ॥1-34-7॥
Translation
O Raghava! I also have an elder sister, a woman of noble vows, known by the name Satyavati. She was given in marriage to the sage Richika.

हे राघव! मेरी एक बड़ी (पूर्वजा) बहन भी हैं, जो उत्तम व्रत का पालन करने वाली हैं। उनका नाम 'सत्यवती' है और वे महर्षि ऋचीक को ब्याही गयीं।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra introduces his elder sister, Satyavati, describing her as suvratā (one of good vows/virtuous). Historically and mythologically, this marriage is pivotal. Satyavati was married to Sage Richika. This union bridges the gap between the Kshatriya lineage of Gadhi and the intense Brahmin lineage of the Bhargavas. Though not explicitly detailed in this specific verse, this connection makes Vishvamitra the great-uncle of Parashurama. By mentioning that she was 'given' (pratipāditā) to Richika, Vishvamitra alludes to the famous story of the dowry of one thousand white horses with black ears, though he keeps the narration focused on the lineage here.
