चोदितो राम वाक्येन विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
वृद्धिम् जन्म च गंगाया वक्तुम् एव उपचक्रमे ॥ ॥१-३५-१३॥
Codito rāma vākyena viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ । Vṛddhim janma ca gaṅgāyā vaktum eva upacakrame ॥ ॥1-35-13॥
Translation
Urged by Rama's words, the great sage Vishvamitra began to narrate the birth and the growth (greatness) of the Ganga.

राम के वचनों से प्रेरित होकर, महामुनि विश्वामित्र ने गंगा के जन्म और (उनके प्रभाव की) वृद्धि का वर्णन करना आरंभ किया।
English Commentary
The word codito (urged/prompted) highlights the dynamic between Guru and Shishya. Knowledge is not forced upon the student; it is drawn out by the student's sincere inquiry. Vishvamitra, addressed here as Mahamuni (Great Sage), responds to Rama's eagerness. The verse sets the stage for a flashback narration. The term vṛddhim (growth/increase) refers to the expansion of Ganga's influence and flow across the worlds. This marks the beginning of the formal storytelling session regarding the sacred river.
