या मेरु दुहिता राम तयोर् माता सुमध्यमा ।
नाम्ना मेना मनोज्ञा वै पत्नी हिमवतः प्रिया ॥ ॥१-३५-१५॥
Yā meru duhitā rāma tayor mātā sumadhyamā । Nāmnā menā manojñā vai patnī himavataḥ priyā ॥ ॥1-35-15॥
Translation
O Rama, the daughter of Meru named Mena, who was slender-waisted and captivating, was their mother and the beloved wife of Himavat.

हे राम! मेरु पर्वत की जो सुंदरी कन्या 'मेना' नाम से विख्यात थी, वह उन दोनों (कन्याओं) की माता और हिमवान की प्रिय पत्नी थी।
English Commentary
The lineage is traced through the mother, Mena, who is the daughter of Mount Meru. In Vedic cosmology, Meru is the axis mundi, the center of the universe. Thus, the union of Himavat and Mena represents a powerful alliance of terrestrial and cosmic stability. Mena is described with classical epithets like sumadhyamā (slender-waisted) and manojñā (captivating/pleasing to the mind). This verse confirms the high pedigree of Ganga and Uma, born of the most illustrious mountain lineages.

यहाँ मातृकुल का परिचय दिया गया है। मेना, सुमेरु पर्वत (जो पौराणिक भूगोल में ब्रह्मांड की धुरी माना जाता है) की पुत्री थीं। 'सुमध्यमा' (सुंदर कटि/कमर वाली) और 'मनोज्ञा' (मन को जानने वाली या मन को भाने वाली) विशेषण उनके सौंदर्य और गुणों को दर्शाते हैं। हिमवान और मेना का विवाह दो महान पर्वत कुलों का मिलन था। गंगा और उमा जैसी दिव्य शक्तियों की माता होने के कारण मेना का स्थान पुराणों में अत्यंत उच्च माना गया है।
