Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्त्वा सुरान् सर्वान् शशाप पृथिवीम् अपि ।
अवने न एक रूपा त्वम् बहु भार्या भविष्यसि ॥१-३६-२२॥
evam uktvā surān sarvān śaśāpa pṛthivīm api |
avane na eka rūpā tvam bahu bhāryā bhaviṣyasi ॥1-36-22॥
Translation
Having spoken thus to all the gods, she cursed the Earth as well: "O Earth (Avani)! You shall not retain one form, and you shall be the wife of many."
हिंदी अनुवाद
सभी देवताओं से ऐसा कहकर, उन्होंने पृथ्वी को भी शाप दिया—"हे अवनि (पृथ्वी)! तुम्हारा रूप एक सा नहीं रहेगा और तुम बहुतों की पत्नी बनोगी।"
English Commentary
The Goddess turns her wrath towards the Earth ("Prithivim"), the vessel that accepted Shiva's energy. She addresses Earth as "Avani" and curses her to be "Bahu bharya" (wife to many). Philosophically and politically, this implies that the Earth will never belong solely to one emperor or ruler but will be possessed by whoever conquers her—becoming the "wife" of many kings throughout history. The curse of not having "Eka rupa" (one form) suggests geological instability and the constant changing of borders and rulers, denying Earth the dignity of a single, stable devotion.

देवताओं के बाद उमा का क्रोध पृथ्वी पर फूटता है, क्योंकि पृथ्वी ने ही शिव के तेज को धारण करने की सहमति दी थी। उमा पृथ्वी को 'बहु भार्या' (अनेक पतियों वाली) होने का शाप देती हैं। इसका राजनीतिक और सामाजिक अर्थ यह है कि पृथ्वी पर सदैव अनेक राजाओं का अधिकार रहेगा; वह किसी एक की होकर नहीं रहेगी, बल्कि जो भी बलवान होगा, वह उस पर शासन (भोग) करेगा। 'न एक रूपा' का अर्थ है कि पृथ्वी का स्वरूप भौगोलिक और राजनीतिक रूप से बदलता रहेगा, वह कभी स्थिर नहीं रहेगी।
