देव देव महादेव लोकस्य अस्य हिते रत ।
सुराणाम् प्रणिपातेन प्रसादम् कर्तुम् अर्हसि ॥१-३६-९॥
deva deva mahādeva lokasya asya hite rata |
surāṇām praṇipātena prasādam kartum arhasi ॥1-36-9॥
Translation
O God of Gods, O Great God (Mahadeva)! You are always engaged in the welfare of this world. Be pleased by the prostration of the celestials and grant us your grace.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे देवों के देव महादेव! आप सदैव इस संसार के कल्याण में लगे रहते हैं। देवताओं के इस प्रणाम (विनम्र निवेदन) से प्रसन्न होकर आप कृपा करें।
English Commentary
The celestials approach Shiva with extreme reverence, addressing Him as "Mahadeva" (The Great God) and "Deva Deva" (God of Gods). They strategically appeal to his nature as "Lokasya asya hite rata" (one intent on the welfare of the world). By emphasizing that his primary function is universal benevolence, they subtly argue that withholding his procreative energy is actually an act of protection for the cosmos. The use of "Pranipatena" (by prostration) indicates total surrender. They are not demanding a right but begging for "Prasadam" (grace/favor), acknowledging that intervening in the divine union is a delicate and potentially perilous request.
