Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुर सेना गण पतिम् अभ्यषिंचत् महाद्युतिम् ।
ततः तम् अमराः सर्वे समेत्य अग्नि पुरोगमाः ॥ ॥१-३७-३०॥
sura senā gaṇa patim abhyaṣiñcat mahādyutim । tataḥ tam amarāḥ sarve sametya agni purogamāḥ ॥ ॥1-37-30॥
Translation
Then all the immortals, led by Agni, assembled and consecrated that resplendent one as the Commander of the Army of the Gods.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब अग्नि को आगे करके सभी देवताओं ने एकत्र होकर उस महाद्युतिमान (महातेजस्वी) कुमार का सुर-सेना-गण-पति (देवताओं की सेना के सेनापति) के पद पर अभिषेक किया।
English Commentary
Following his display of martial prowess, the celestial hierarchy formalizes his status. The gods, with Agni at the forefront ('agni purogamāḥ'), perform the coronation ritual ('abhyaṣiñcat'), installing him as the 'Sura sena gana patim' (Lord of the hosts of the divine army). Agni's leadership here is appropriate as he acted as the surrogate carrier of the seed. This verse marks the culmination of the request made by the gods to Brahma and Shiva earlier in the epic—the desperate need for a general is finally met in Skanda.

दैत्यों पर विजय के बाद, देवताओं ने औपचारिक रूप से स्कन्द को अपना नेता मान लिया। 'अभ्यषिंचत' का अर्थ है अभिषेक करना (Rajyabhisheka/Pattabhisheka)। यहाँ अग्नि को 'पुरोगमाः' (अग्रणी) रखा गया है क्योंकि अग्नि का स्कन्द के जन्म में मुख्य योगदान था और वे देवताओं के मुख हैं। स्कन्द को 'महाद्युतिम्' कहा गया है, जो उनके सूर्य और अग्नि जैसे तेज को पुनः स्मरण कराता है। यह श्लोक कार्तिकेय के 'देवसेनापति' रूप की स्थापना करता है, जो उनका सबसे प्रमुख पौराणिक कार्यभार है।
