yat atra anantaram kāryam lokānām hita kāmyayā ।
saṃvidhatsva vidhānajña tvam hi naḥ paramā gatiḥ ॥ ॥१-३७-४॥

Translation
O Knower of cosmic laws! Desiring the welfare of the worlds, please ordain what should be done next in this matter. For You alone are our ultimate refuge.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे विधानज्ञ! लोकों के कल्याण की कामना से, इसके बाद जो कार्य करना उचित हो, उसका आप विधान करें। क्योंकि आप ही हमारी परम गति (सहारा) हैं।
English Commentary
The Devas address Brahma as 'Vidhanajna' (Knower of established rules/cosmic ordinances). Since the Devas were rendered incapable of producing offspring due to Uma's curse, and Shiva was absorbed in tapas, the Devas saw no other path. They pray to Brahma to devise a solution for the welfare of the universe. This verse illustrates the spirit of total surrender. When all efforts fail or paths seem blocked, the Creator Brahma is the ultimate refuge who, knowing the laws of destiny and action, can suggest the correct remedial measure.
हिंदी टीका
देवता ब्रह्माजी को 'विधानज्ञ' (विधियों के ज्ञाता) कह कर संबोधित कर रहे हैं। चूंकि उमा के शाप के कारण देवता स्वयं संतान उत्पन्न करने में असमर्थ हो गए थे और शिवजी तपस्या में लीन थे, देवताओं के पास कोई मार्ग नहीं बचा था। वे ब्रह्माजी से प्रार्थना करते हैं कि विश्व के कल्याण के लिए वे ही कोई मार्ग निकालें। यह श्लोक शरणागति के भाव को दर्शाता है। जब सभी प्रयास विफल हो जाते हैं या मार्ग अवरुद्ध हो जाता है, तो सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा ही अंतिम आश्रय होते हैं जो नियति और कर्म के विधान को जानते हुए सही उपाय सुझा सकते हैं।
