Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इयम् आकाश गंगा यस्याम् पुत्रम् हुताशनः ।
जनयिष्यति देवानाम् सेनापतिम् अरिंदमम् ॥ ॥१-३७-७॥
iyam ākāśa gaṃgā yasyām putram hutāśanaḥ । janayiṣyati devānām senāpatim arindamam ॥ ॥1-37-7॥
Translation
Here is the celestial Ganga, in whom Agni (Hutashana) will generate a son, the commander of the Devas' army and the destroyer of enemies.

यह आकाशगंगा हैं, जिनमें अग्निदेव (हुताशन) देवताओं के सेनापति और शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले पुत्र को उत्पन्न करेंगे।
English Commentary
Brahma presents the solution to the problem. Since the Devas cannot procreate with their own wives due to the curse, a divine arrangement akin to surrogacy is devised. Ganga, capable of bearing Shiva's potency, is chosen. Agni (Hutashana) is made the medium because he had previously absorbed Shiva's unfailing energy (tejas). The word 'Arindamam' (destroyer of enemies) prophesies the valor of the yet-to-be-born Kartikeya. This verse establishes the significance of Ganga not just as a river, but as a Goddess and a cosmic power capable of bearing divine energy.

ब्रह्माजी समस्या का समाधान प्रस्तुत करते हैं। चूँकि देवता अपनी पत्नियों में संतान उत्पन्न नहीं कर सकते (शाप के कारण), इसलिए 'सरोगेसी' (स्थानापन्न मातृत्व) जैसा एक दैवीय विधान रचा गया। गंगा, जो शिवजी के तेज को धारण करने में समर्थ हैं, उन्हें चुना गया। अग्निदेव (हुताशन) को माध्यम बनाया गया क्योंकि उन्होंने शिव के अमोध वीर्य (तेज) को पहले ग्रहण किया था। यहाँ 'अरिंदमम्' (शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला) शब्द भविष्य में जन्म लेने वाले कार्तिकेय के शौर्य की भविष्यवाणी करता है। यह श्लोक गंगा के महत्व को केवल एक नदी के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि एक देवी और शक्ति के रूप में स्थापित करता है।
